Overdue Update................ 22 August 2005

There have been no major updates or changes to this website within the past 3 months. This is due to the amount of projects that I have undertaken recently. I am currently maintaining all the sites for the Catania Hospitality Group. These properties consists of hotels, restaurants and inns. The sites will be listed in the portfolio section of this website. The sites consist of online reservations as well as covering all the features of the properties. I started as System Admin/Web Developer in April of 2005. I am still currently accepting and working on new projects.

I will be adding a section on SEO and PPC. I will share some of the best practices that I have learned and a few tricks. Hopefully, this will make it easier for some of you.

Musings: Has the browser war ended?

If so, who is the winner? The prevailing belief is that Internet Explorer has won. What does this mean for the internet surfers? The rumor is that IE is not going to be updated as a stand-alone package anymore. Microsoft is planning on making it a part of their operating system package. So if you want the updated version you will need to install the new OS. There is nothing to confirm this rumor as of yet....

Some interesting facts;source: www.w3schools browser stats
  • 30% of users are running IE 5.x and up
  • 13% of users have JavaScript disabled
  • 49% of users are running in a screen res. of at least 1024x768
  • Netscape 4.x remains the 'standard issue' browser for two million US Govt. employees
  • Microsoft recently discontinued support for IE on the Mac platform, ceding the market to Netscape and Safari
  • Opera has significant market penetration in Europe
  • Web browsing on PDA devices is becoming more popular
  • Through the Americans for Disabilities act, the US gov't mandates that federal agencies' electronic and information technology be available for people with disabilities, which effectively opens up an entirely new class of browser-compatibilty issues.
